Gov. Reg. PP82/2012 Electronic system and transaction operation is causing concern not only among IT companies but also among banks, credit card companies and other businesses that rely or will rely on data transmission and e-commerce. The issues of immediate concern are the potential for a requirement that all companies doing business in Indonesia will be required to maintain separate data centers here and also that all companies engaging in digital communication will be required to establish Indonesia domain addresses. This would add additional costs and given infrastructure constraints is problematic.
AIC was on of the signatories in support of a letter along with other organisations including American Chamber of Commerce, the US Chamber of Commerce, and US-Asean Business Council to the Minister of Communication highlighting our concern, and in a constructive way encouraging a further dialogue.
