The first Japanese corporate group in the global Internet industry: Asia Internet Coalition Japan (AICJ) established
The Asia Internet Coalition Japan (AICJ) was established on September 25, 2013 by seven Internet companies (see appendix). Its mission is to properly represent industry opinion on policies and institutions in order to ensure the sustained and robust growth of the Internet industry and to encourage public debate on Internet related issues.
Why the AICJ was established
Fair and uninhibited flow of information on the Internet is imperative for the robust growth of the Internet industry and innovative businesses in Japan.
While many innovative services are introduced daily due to the rapid development of technology, there are times when the necessary social institutions or means of access are insufficient for the people to benefit from these services. As these areas advance in Europe and the US, it is crucial to progress swiftly in Asia as well—arguably the place with the most potential for growth—and Japan is expected to help lead the way in this endeavor.
The AICJ seeks to compile opinions from the Internet industry—particularly from those players in the upper layer of the Internet. Its goal is to conduct research and promote understanding of Japan’s Internet policies in order to support the establishment of innovative businesses, protect and promote the application of intellectual property, ensure fair and uninhibited flow of information, and create user friendly Internet services.
